The Law of thirds

from Horizons by thesecondwall

/

about

A melancholic piano composition I composed a while back whilst staying with a friend. We'd stay up late, drinking single malts, listen to Stars of the Lid and Gonzalez piano works. Those influences seemed to have rubbed off in this tune.

The title refers to the general photographic rule of keeping things in simple measures of three. The piano lines threaded throughout this piece maintain this simplicity of 3 at it's heart. The counterpoint to this, is a complex series of cross-rhythms in 5/4.

I hope you like this one.
